The 20th General Assembly of the Conference of NGOs,

RECALLING the resolution adopted by its 19th General Assembly;

NOTING the adoption of Economic and Social Council resolution 1996/31 and decision 1996/297.

CONSIDERING the fact that the 51st General Assembly's Sub-Group on NGOs of the Open- Ended High- Level Working Group on the Strengthening of the UN System could not agree on its mandate regarding the future role of NGOs vis a vis the General Assembly.

NOTING draft resolution E/19997/L.51 of the Economic and Social Council;

REITERATES its call for the extension of NGO participation in the committees of the General Assembly, and

CALLS for the extension of NGO participation also to plenary meetings of the General Assembly, taking into account the principles and procedures established in ECOSOC resolution 1996/31.
