Renate Bloem
CONGO President
2000 - 2003
Renate Bloem has worked in the NGO field as UN Representative
for the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women and
with CONGO as the President of the NGO Committee on the Status of
Women in Geneva, Coordinating Committee Member of the NGO Forum
on Health, member of the International NGO Coordinating Committee
for Beijing+5 and Convener of the Working Group on Girls.
As a Human Rights advocate focusing in particular on the human
rights of women and children, she was involved in the drafting of
the Convention on the Rights of the Child and has led her organization's
delegations to the World Conferences on Human Rights (Vienna 1993),
the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing 1995) and the World
Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (Stockholm
1996).
Ms. Bloem has organized seminars and consultations and set up
caucus activities on lobby and advocacy. She frequently addresses
the issue of NGO/UN work at national and international speaking
engagements. She was elected President of CONGO at the General
Assembly in November 2000.
