Description:


The NGO Committee on the Status of Women in New York provides a forum for the exchange of information about substantive issues related to women that are under consideration by the United Nations system. It assists the international community in implementing the Nairobi Forward Looking Strategies, the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action and the Women 2000-Beijing +5 agenda by facilitating discussion and cooperation among NGO's and individuals interested in women's issues. It supports CEDAW and UN agencies working to improve the status of women

The Committee organizes a consultation and training for NGO's attending meetings of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York. It briefs NGOs daily during the meetings and hosts an annual reception for NGO's and governments. The Committee sponsors awards for women diplomats in the fall, and for women of achievement in the spring.

Members:


Members are representatives of organizations concerned about the status of women and active at the UN headquarters in New York. Voting members are those individuals who represent organizations in Consultative Status with the UN through ECOSOC; there is one vote per organization. Individuals may be members without vote.

Membership benefits : Members will receive notices of monthly meetings, special publications and updates on activities of the UN, plus invitations to all special events, receptions and meetings sponsored by The Committee. In addition, the Committee brings NGO representatives together to issue joint statements, facilitates NGO participation at CSW meetings, conducts training and orientation for NGO representatives, and runs an international listserv that keeps women worldwide apprised of issues throughout the world.

Meeting Information:
The Committee generally meets from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Church Center, located at 777 UN Plaza (corner of 44th Street and 1st Avenue) in New York. Changes in venue are noted on CONGO Substantive Committees Events Calendar

 

Membership Dues and Application:

Dues: are $50 per person and checks should be in US$ drawn on a US bank. Please make checks payable to NGO CSW NY and send form(s) and check to PO Box 3571 Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163. Additional contributions to support the work of The Committee may be added to your dues. The Committee is a charitable organization in the United States; your contribution may be tax deductible to the extent legally allowable.
