Dear Members of NGO Committee on Health Communications:

In the above Spring 2003 issue of the World Ecology Report you will find two articles related to our HCC February Briefing, "Update in Current Trends in Health Communications", which was presented in collaboration with the Government of Ukraine, WHO, and World Information Transfer. The text of Minister Counselor of Croatia, Irena Zubcevic's introduction entitled "Communication Technology for Health" is included on page 8. An extension of Nanci Sarcinello's power point presentation on GIS and Health Communication is included on pate 6-7 of the WER, entitled "Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Water Resource Management".

Please also note that on page 14 of the WER, you will find a review of the book, Critical Issues in Global Health, edited by Clarence Pearson, Vice Chair, HCC.

Last Wednesday, I attended the CONGO Chairs meeting held in DC1. Renate Bloem, president of CONGO, was the guest speaker. Of particular note to the HCC, Renate mentioned the development of a new link to WHO on the CONGO website and CONGO's commitment to focusing on the cross cutting issue of health. I will forward minutes from the meeting when I receive them.

I look forward to seeing you at the HCC's spring briefing on "telemedicine" which will be held in late May or early June.

Best regards,
Carolyn

Subject : International Call for Participation: IFMSA Refugee Health Training

Dear friends and students,

We would like to announce the call for participation for the ITRH - IFMSA International Training on Refugee Health, which is going to take place from August 24th to 31th 2003 in Pakistan

The initiative for this training was based on the fact that the continue existing and rapid increasing conflicts, wars, famine, disease and other natural and man-made disasters around the world have created large populations of refugees and displaced people.

The ITRH is an eight-day training, where the participants will be introduced to the basic skills and knowledge of refugee health issues, exposed to the health conditions of refugees and introduced to providing health-care using limited resources. In addition medical students will be reminded of their responsibility as the primary spokesperson for the ailing whose voices are often not heard.

The deadline for applying for this international training on refugee health is the 15th of June 2003. We must receive the applications by that date. So please send in your application well in advance...

For more information about the training please visit http://www.ifmsa-usa.org/scorp/itrh.htm or write to itrh@imcc.dk. The application form can be found at the website mentioned above. This workshop is only open for medical students. Please pass this information to all those interested.

Best Regards,
