UN Commission on the Status of Women, 3-14 March 2003, UN Headquarters,

The UN Commission on the Status of
Women will hold its 47th Session from 3-14 March 2003, giving U.N.
Member States an opportunity to review national progress on the
priorities set out in the Beijing Platform for Action for the advancement
of women.
Every year many civil society organizations gather
beforehand for a day of consultation and networking. This years
NGO Consultation Day program will be held at Barnard College in
Manhattan on Sunday, 2 March 2003.
Pre-registration is required. The program will include a keynote
address, an expert panel and breakout discussion/networking sessions
on the following themes being reviewed by the Commission on the
Status of Women:
Themes are :
1. Information and communication technologies
and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement
and empowerment of
women
2. Participation and access of women to
the media, and its impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement
and empowerment of women
3.Trafficking in women and girls,"
which is a sub theme of the topic, "Women's human rights and
elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls as
defined in the Beijing Platform for Action and twenty-third special
session of the General Assembly".

This skills training session designed by WILDAF
for persons who want to have further training in advocacy
techniques will cover how to provide advocacy during the CSW
meetings and the opportunities to provide advocacy at national
and regional levels It will also address ways to stay connected
between CSW meetings.
