The UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of Commitment on 27 June 2001. The political declaration outlines new measures and targets to curb the spread of the pandemic and to reduce its impact on societies. In addition to the Declaration of Commitment, other statements and documents connected with the UNGASS can be found at http://www.un.org/ga/aids/coverage.

ICASO (International Council of AIDS Service Organizations) has prepared an Advocacy Guide to the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS to assist NGOS in using the declaration to enhance the response to HIV/AIDS. The document is available on the ICASO site (see "UNGASS") in English, French and Spanish.

Throughout the process the "Break-the-Silence" e-mail discussion forum channeled input, ideas and priorities from members of civil society into the official meetings. Messages circulated on the forum can be found on the Health & Development Network website.
