Meeting every four years to set the organization's mandate and work priorities, Ministerial conferences are UNCTAD's highest decision-making body. UNCTAD Ministerial conferences also serve an important political function: allowing intergovernmental consensus building regarding the state of the world economy and development policies. UNCTAD XII will be held in Accra, Ghana, 20-25 April 2008 and will focus on the following general theme: "Addressing the opportunities and challenges of globalization for development".[more]

ECOSOC President Addresses the CONGO Board

In his speech delivered before the newly elected Board of the Conference of NGOs, Leo Mérorès, President of ECOSOC commended CONGO initiatives and programmes and shared his vision of the upcoming Annual Ministerial Review and the Development Cooperation Forum. President Mérorès emphasized the strategic role CONGO has played in its 60 years of history in strengthening the relationship between the NGOs, the United Nations and the Council and recognized the Conference of NGOs as "a major development partner in the promotion of coherent and consistent approach towards our common development goals."
