The board of directors of the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO), meeting at the Church Center for the United Nations on October 2 to 4, issued a resolution in commemoration of the seventieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR, 1948).
The commemoration coincided with CoNGO’s own seventieth anniversary. In a remark made by the CoNGO President, Dr. Liberato Bautista said, “that CoNGO is marking its seventieth anniversary at the same seventieth for the UDHR means more than just a coincidence. Many of the predecessor leaders of CoNGO were ardent supporters of this magna carta of human rights, including but most especially the corpus of international human rights law that evolved in the last seventy years. Even more leaders are in the forefront today of continuing to evolve our understanding of what the fullness of human dignity and human rights entails.”
