Report CS Forum 2006 to the ECOSOC HLS on Employment and Decent Work

29-30 June 2006, Geneva

17 November 2006

"Creating an environment at the national and international levels conducive to generating full and productive employment and decent work for all, and its impact on sustainable development".

It is my great pleasure to present you with the report and full accounts of the Civil Society Forum to the ECOSOC High-level Segment on the issue of employment and decent work. It was organized by the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Status with the United Nations (CONGO) together with its partners in Geneva on 29 - 30 June at the ILO Building.

The Forum would not have been possible without the generous contribution of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Canton of Geneva and I would like to warmly thank them for it as well as for their continuing support of Civil Society.

It was organized in partnership with the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), Solidar, Pax Romana and other NGO networks and with the support of the UN Liaison Office, Geneva and the New York DESA NGO Section. CONGO wants to express its particular appreciation to the International Labour Organization which graciously offered their facilities.

I would like to express here my gratitude to the CONGO staff who contributed to the success of this Forum: Isolda Agazzi for the program, Adina Fulga Radi for media and communication, Florence Hausermann and Alejandra Mendoza for events and logistics and Bunmi Ogunlade for the registration of participants. I also take this opportunity to give full praise and acknowledgement to our interns, Natalia Martinez and Laura Stäubli, for their excellent work and dedication.

Further thanks are extended to all volunteers who took minutes of the w-shops, thereby facilitating the task of Isolda to compile this final report with the help of Annie Yeromian.

Finally, I would like to pay a special tribute to our colleagues and friends of the ICFTU - Anna Biondi, Raquel Gonzales, Esther Busser - for investing their time and energy to help us with drawing up the program and identifying panelists.

I wish you happy reading and thank you again for your continued support for CONGO's activities and for strengthening civil society in its interactions with the United Nations.

Renate Bloem

CONGO President
