Geneva > Committee on Ageing

The Geneva NGO Committee on Ageing aims to focus attention on population ageing issues and its consequences as well as mainstream the inclusion of older persons in the United Nations agenda and goals. More specifically, the committee strives to address the age-related intergenerational issues in policies and programmes, in meetings and discussion in the UN system and NGO work. It also calls upon member states and UN committees to mainstream ageing and older age-specific policies, thus underlining the participation of all generations in the development agenda, while taking special care in addressing the rights of older persons and in eradicating poverty among older women and older men in the world. The Geneva Committee on Ageing meets regularly with a minimum of twice a year with the full assembly, and more frequently with sub-groups on different topics related to the current agenda (human rights council, older women, meetings with CEDAW, etc.). It keeps regular contact with the New York and Vienna Committee on Ageing as well as the New York sub-committee on older women (SCOW) and the special committee for the establishment of a UN Convention on the Rights of older persons, based in New York.
